CAPE TOWN - The case against a 51-year-old man accused of raping a nine-year-old girl in Hanover Park has been postponed to Friday, for a Legal Aid lawyer to come on record.
The accused, whose identity is being protected because of legal issues, on Friday appeared in court for the first time after his arrest on Tuesday, when the child was found at his house, hours after her family reported her missing.
It's been revealed he was paroled in November after serving the minimum required portion of a 25-year sentence handed down in 2008 for the rape of a 10-year-old girl.
The Faith and Hope Missing Persons organisation's Dennis George said: "We are disgusted that this has happened because this is a convicted rapist. How was he allowed to come back to the community?"
The Department of Correctional Services has launched a process to revoke the accused's parole and an investigation to review the effectiveness of parolee monitoring.
