JOHANNESBURG - The Eastern Cape Health Department has confirmed that the two premature baby boys who were abducted from Dora Nginza Hospital in Gqeberha have been found.

The children were reported missing on Tuesday night by their mothers when they could not find them in the premature unit of the maternity ward.

Two people have been arrested following the abduction of the two babies.

Police spokesperson, Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said the fast actions of a police officer saw the babies returned to their mothers on Wednesday, unharmed.

"As one of the SAPS [South African Police Service] officers was busy exiting the premises of the hospital, he noticed two females with infants and immediately approached the two females and after further interrogation the two infants were identified as the two babies that were stolen last [Tuesday] night. The two female suspects, aged 25 and 26, will appear in the New Brighton Magistrates Court during the week.”
