US-SA relations: Trump, Ramaphosa, media tackle Afrikaner 'genocide' narrative

JOHANNESBURG – United States (US) President Donald Trump has maintained his stance in the presence of President Cyril Ramaphosa that Afrikaner people are being targeted in a genocide in South Africa.
Trump is hosting a South African delegation led by Ramaphosa at the White House in Washington on Wednesday.
The primary purpose of the bilateral meeting is to reset the turbulent diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

Responding to journalists at the Oval Office a short while ago, Trump reiterated his concern over what he believes is a dire situation in South Africa.
“A lot of people are very concerned with regards with South Africa, and that’s the purpose of this meeting, and we have welcomed people who are being persecuted.”
However, Ramaphosa has firmly told Trump that there’s no white genocide in South Africa.
“It will take President Trump listening to the voices of South Africans. I’m not going to be repeating what I’m saying. If there was an Afrikaner genocide, these three men would not be here, including my Agriculture Minister.
