CAPE TOWN - A man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Plettenberg Bay Regional Court for raping his ex-girlfriend.

Siyamcela Yali grabbed the woman who was on her way to meet with friends and forced her into the bushes on the side of the road.

The assault, which took place in December 2020, lasted for six hours

Two people who passed through the bushes the next morning heard her screaming.

They manged to help the victim escape and later reported the rape to the police

The Western Cape's National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said, "The ordeal lasted from midnight until 6 o'clock the next morning. During this time, he would take breaks, smoke, and rape her again. He was arrested the next morning after she was saved by two men. The state led evidence of five witnesses, which assisted in securing his conviction and sentence."
