JOHANNESBURG - Patriotic Alliance (PA) member of the provincial legislature (MPL) Ewan Botha has been appointed as Gauteng's new MEC for Environment.
This follows the recent resignation of Shyla Peters from the position, with the PA saying she was redeployed elsewhere.
The PA forms part of the African National Congress (ANC)-led multiparty coalition government in Gauteng and has one MEC seat on the provincial cabinet.
Botha was officially sworn in on Wednesday morning during a media briefing at the premier's office in Johannesburg.
The 32-year-old Tuks law graduate said he was ready to serve the people of Gauteng.
"I'm very grateful for this opportunity, I think it's something that I've been hoping for, for a very long time. I have been working towards this for some time. Serving your country is an honour and it's something I hope to do with aplomb and to bring my skills and expertise to the legislature.
"I want to thank my party, president Gayton McKenzie and deputy president Kenny Kunene for the opportunity. I understand this is not a small task. I would like to hope I make an enormous difference here and undertake to work diligently."
An important media briefing is currently taking place regarding governance matters in Gauteng.
