CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Mobility has welcomed the agreement reached by the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA) to end their conflict over Mfuleni to Somerset West and Khayelitsha-Somerset West routes.
 
The agreement puts an end to deadly shootings that have claimed the lives of at least eight taxi operators in Cape Town over the past few weeks.

Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku has commended both taxi associations for prioritising commuter safety and upholding peace within the taxi industry.
 
Meanwhile, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the province said the agreement is a positive step towards ensuring stability, operational clarity, and safety of commuters.
  
"The industry sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused during this time. SANTACO Western Cape emphasises that all parties are committed to staying proactive in addressing and resolving key issues collaboratively, working together to build a safer, more sustainable public transportation system for everyone,” said SANTACO provincial secretary Elryno Saaiers.
