Part of his job was to find out what happened to the R2 billion revenue that disappeared from the city’s books.

His death has sparked concerns that his killing may be linked to alleged corruption in the metro

During a recent interview with EWN, Ekurhuleni Mayor, Doctor Xhakaza, revealed that Mafole was close to uncovering the truth.

“It’s one thing, you prepare a charge sheet for the suspended officials, you deliver it, and something happens. We don’t want to draw up linkages, but if you are involved in this kind of work and you just get shot. It can’t be a random thing.”

No arrests have been made yet in connection with Mafole’s murder.
