The MK Party has vowed to ‘shut down Gauteng’ in a protest against alleged criminality in the South African Police Service (SAPS) and to support Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

They claim that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appointment of an interim Police Minister is unconstitutional, threatening a legal challenge.

The party will begin their march in Johannesburg on Monday and intends to escalate it to a shutdown of the entire province on Friday.

Goba says between 200 and 300 MK Party members are participating in the march, many of whom are wearing shirts saying, 'Hands Off Nhlanhal Mkhwanazi'.
