JOHANNESBURG - The bail application of the man accused raping and impregnating his daughter has been postponed to next week for an outcome.

On Friday, the 39-year-old man appeared before the Tsakani Magistrates Court with a private legal representative.

The alleged rape incidents took place in 2022 in Tsakani, Ekurhuleni.

The victim was moved to Limpopo to her paternal family when she fell pregnant and later gave birth.

The accused told the court that he wants to be released on bail so he can financially support his wife and three children.

He also denied committing the crime and said he plans to plead not guilty.

The state opposed his application because there is DNA evidence that he is the father of the three-year-old child.

State prosecutor Sindi Sejake raised that he could not prove that he was the breadwinner, as he had no employment and is said to survive on his children’s grant money.

Sejake also told the court that he is a threat to the victim’s safety as he had gone to confront her when he heard she opened a case against him, when he was subsequently arrested.

The magistrate postponed the matter to next week Tuesday for a bail outcome.
