JOHANNESBURG - The family of a missing 35-year-old man from Johannesburg is demanding answers from a student residence in Midrand, as it's believed their loved one was last seen at the premises.

Lebo Mniki reportedly visited his girlfriend at the Respublica Princeton Village student accommodation on 29 August.

There has been no clarity over whether he left the building or not; however, he has not been seen since.

The family has opened a missing person's case with the Midrand Police Station.

Lebo Mniki’s family says it was made aware of his disappearance when his employer called them to say he had not been to work on Friday, 29 August.

His sister, Vuyokazi Ntuthu, said it was unlike Mniki to not show up at work, so she immediately tried to locate him.

She said all his friends confirmed that he was last seen visiting his girlfriend, who allegedly refused to give the family any answers about his whereabouts.

Ntuthu added that they visited the residence, and they were allegedly told he was seen coming in but not going out.

"The frustrating thing is the lack of transparency and people not willing to cooperate and it makes me question what are they really hiding. If I am innocent, I would want to clear my name and say I am not a part of this."

She said the residence has refused to give them the CCTV footage to see whether he exited the premises or not.
