AK-47 rifle used to murder DJ Sumbody positively linked to 18 cases - SAPS

Police say the AK-47 rifle used to murder DJ Sumbody has been positively linked to 18 cases.

The same gun was also used in the attempted hit on taxi boss, Joe Sibanyoni, for which alleged crime boss Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala is charged for.

Matlala was denied bail on Wednesday in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court.

He faced attempted murder charges for the hit on his socialite girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane and DJ Vettys.

A month ago, police linked a single AK-47 to the murders of DJ Sumbody, DJ Vintos, Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart and a man named Don Tindleni.

Alleged crime boss Katiso "KT" Molefe has been charged for all those murders.

But on Wednesday, police revealed that the gun and two others had also been linked to the attempted hit on taxi boss, Joe Sibanyoni, for which another alleged kingpin, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala has been charged for.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe: "I previously indicated that we were linking those three firearms with 10 cases – the cases have now risen to 18. These include murder, attempted murder and other serious crimes."

Matlala was denied bail in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Wednesday and his matter was postponed to October.
