CapeTalk’s Clarence Ford speaks with Thembani Loliwe, Strategic Services Manager at Garden Route District Municipality.

The Garden Route District Municipality is aiming to fight youth unemployment with skills-building opportunities.

They are currently inviting unemployed youth who live within the Garden Route district municipal area to apply for Driver’s Licence Code C and B training.

This forms a part of their Garden Route Skills Mecca Initiative.

Loliwe says there are currently 560 opportunities available for people aged between 18 and 40.

He says they have realised that many job adverts require applicants to have a driver’s licence, and many young people are overlooked as a result.

“We want to make sure that we empower them to better their chances of finding these jobs.”
