The South African Weather Service has issued a weather warning for Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to reach low 30s.
Forecasters say residents of Cape Town and rest of the Western Cape are in for a hot, sunny day.
The City's Disaster Risk Management Centre is advising people to limit any strenuous activity and to stay hydrated.
Spokesperson for the Centre, Charlotte Powell, says their teams will monitor the situation and will coordinate responses where required.
"Stay out of the sun as far as possible, limit strenuous outdoor activities, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other clear liquids, avoid alcohol, take special precautions to ensure the safety of children, the elderly, animals and other vulnerable groups."
