A childcare NGO says it's concerned about an alarming increase in babies being abandoned.

On Monday, police were informed about the body of a newborn baby, which was discovered on a field near Parkwood along the M5 highway.

This is the third such incident reported to police in the last two weeks.

Hannah’s Place of Safety is encouraging new mothers to reach out to their organisation as an alternative.

The organisation's CEO, Janine Fabe, said there were other options for mothers who may not be in a position to care for their children.

"We've got so many women that inbox us where they are saying they are pregnant. They basically want to give their babies up for adoption. I will then connect those women to adoption agencies, or I will get adoption agencies or social workers to make contact with them."

Fabe added that babies could also be taken a government hospital.

"Babies are placed with us by the Department of Social Development, it will either be the main hospitals that are contacting us. So, like Groote Schuur, New Somerset Hospital, Karl Bremer, those types of hospitals."
