The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is set to rule on an application for a witness to have highly confidential testimony heard in-camera on Monday.
Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga and his co-commissioners will make a ruling when the commission resumes following a one-week break.
While it remains unclear who the next witness will be, the commission has confirmed it is not Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo, who is yet to conclude his testimony after falling ill two weeks ago.
Evidence leaders are expected to argue that the witness's testimony will include sensitive information related to covert police operations and, therefore, cannot be made public.

It's likelythat the witness forms part of either the Gauteng Counterintelligence Team, who are the driving force behind unravelling criminal syndicates in the province, or a member of the KZN Political Killings Task Team.
Both units have featured prominently in testimony before the commission so far.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, KZN police boss, NhlanhlaMkhwanazi, and Khumalo have all vouched for the specialised units.
EWN understands that the witness is likely to testify for several days and possibly even a week.
