SAPU condemns alleged attack on police officers in Makhaza

The South African Police Union (SAPU) has condemned the alleged attack on police officers in Makhaza, Khayelitsha.
Police said members were attacked while attending a protest near the Empolweni informal settlement, along Baden Powell Drive, on Thursday.

The responding officers were reversing when they noticed smoke inside the vehicle they were in and jumped out.
No injuries were reported.
Four suspects were arrested for attempted murder, public violence, and malicious damage to property.
"We, as SAPU, call on provincial government, civil society and community-based structures to work collaboratively to address the root cause of the violent crimes.
“While we also commend the arrests made by SAPS [South African Police Service], more must be done to ensure officials are equipped, protected, and supported in the line of duty."
