Cape Winelands Municipality braves 2 fires simultaneously

Firefighters at the Cape Winelands District Municipality are currently responding to two fires in Langeberg and Witzenberg, respectively. 

The first fire, burning just 5km from Roberston, is currently concentrated on a hill, but is slowly making its way to town. 

Motorists are advised not to stop and watch to avoid obstructing emergency vehicles. 

The second fire is burning in a veld just above Elandsrivier Farm, outside Op Die Berg. 

The municipality's Jo-Anne Otto said firefighting teams are working to contain both fires.

“A digger/loader has been deployed to assist with the creation of a fire break in an effort to prevent the fire from spreading to agricultural land. All firefighting teams are operating under extremely challenging conditions, with temperatures exceeding 36°C.”
