The City of Ekurhuleni has launched its annual Summer Awareness Campaign to educate communities about seasonal hazards and promote disaster preparedness.

The campaign, in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre, kicked off on Saturday at the busy Kempton Park Taxi Rank, where officials engaged directly with residents, taxi passengers, and shoppers.

Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi said the initiative aims to "build resilient communities capable of responding effectively to life-threatening emergencies and natural disasters during the summer months."

The educational drive is covering a wide range of seasonal dangers, including heatwaves, drought, summer veld fires, floods, thunderstorms, and drowning. The campaign seeks to equip residents with the knowledge necessary to mitigate risks and respond effectively when faced with these common summer-related emergencies.
