The African National Congress (ANC) has named its full provincial task team (PTT) following a decision to reshuffle the party’s executive committee (PEC) in the Western Cape.

The establishment in the province comes amid a push to renew the party, especially in the key regions where it has fallen out of favour with voters.

In 2024’s general elections, the ANC slipped further down the polls nationally and in some provinces that were once strongholds.

Task teams have since been set up in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and now the Western Cape to address the poor electoral performance and drive the ANC’s renewal agenda.

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula met with the Western Cape PEC on Wednesday after months of speculation on a possible dissolution of the top provincial structure.

Mbalula said while a decision to disband the structure had not been taken, a reconfiguration is needed, with former ambassador to the United States (US), Ebrahim Rasool, set to lead as convenor.

"His 1st deputy convener: Linda Moss, 2nd deputy convener: Vuyiso Tyhalisisu, coordinator: Thandi Manikivana Makasi, 1st deputy coordinator: Melanie Tembo, 2nd deputy coordinator: Phlisa Makeleni, fundraiser: Richard Dyantyi. These are the comrades who will constitute the PTT."
