Anti-gender-based violence activists are blaming the failure of the justice system for the murder of a Somerset West woman.
Forty-three-year-old Nicolette Overbeek was found shot and killed in her vehicle outside her house in Somerset West on Tuesday morning.
It is understood she was due to testify against her estranged husband in a case of assault in December.
Callas Foundation's Caroline Peters said that she was silenced before she could speak her truth.
"This week’s murder of a 43-year-old mother in Somerset West is yet another painful reminder of the deadly risk that women face when they take a stand against abuse. We call on the justice system to treat this as an urgent femicide case."
