Johannesburg residents and civil society groups are set to stage a protest outside of the city’s council chambers on.

They’re calling for urgent action in addressing the ongoing water crisis.

The metro has been plagued with a myriad of water challenges, which have left some residents with dry taps for weeks on end.

Earlier this year, the civil organisations took to the streets demanding that the water challenges in the City of Johannesburg be addressed.

From throttling to intermittent water supply, and sometimes no water, many residents in the metro have expressed frustration with the water supply problems.

One of the organisations, WaterCAN, and partners have in their open letter listed their demands, which include providing running water to informal settlements and reforming the Joburg Water board.

They are also calling for the ringfencing of water funds, accountability of allocation of the city's revenue, and an investigation into water tanker contracts.
