KZN police engaged in series of probes to uncover truth behind AKA, Tibz double murder

With all suspects linked to the murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and businessman Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane arrested, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police are engaged in a series of investigations to uncover the truth behind the double murder.

On Tuesday, two additional suspects, brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, were extradited to the country after spending nearly two years in Eswatini.

The pair faces two murder charges and has been linked to other separate cases.

They are set to join five other accused in the high-profile matter.

While it was previously revealed that the team that killed Forbes and Motsoane comprised spotters, shooters, and getaway drivers, police believe the alleged coordinator, accused number 4, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, will lead them to the mastermind

“We are comfortable that the main guy that assembled the team and executed the job paid the entire team and also paid himself is amongst the seven arrested,” said KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Mkhwanazi said investigators are focusing on vehicles used during the hit to determine links to other crimes.

“We know that the vehicles that were used were rented for other days, either this than this day, where this incident happened. We are investigating that as well where these vehicles might have been used when they were rented by this person.”

The case against the two Ndimande brothers will return to court on 25 November, while they are set to stand trial with their five co-accused in 2026.

KZN police said while it took time to secure arrests in the double murder, investigations are progressing

Mkhwanazi said they have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests.

“I am excited that the hard work of colleagues that was done over years at least it has finally brought us into this courtroom. Now that they are eventually here, at least we can see the next phase of the administration of justice unfolding. Hopefully, it is going to be in favour of the State until the end.”
