The body of a Vredenburg teenager has been identified more than a year after he was reported missing.
Romano Fredericks was last seen when he left home on 3 August last year, to visit a friend in the West Coast town of Velddrif.

The 19-year-old was in his matric year at Louwville High School at the time.

Vredenburg community leader, Norman van Wyk, said that DNA tests have confirmed a body found on a field about five kilometres outside of the town, is that of 19-year-old Romano Fredericks.

Van Wyk, who has been part of search parties and awareness campaigns since the teen's disappearance, said his family was contacted by police yesterday to share the sad news.

He added the area where the body was found, was extensively searched, with the help of police dogs and drones.

Van Wyk said that the death of the vibrant, energetic teenager would leave a void in their community.
