The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has thanked Lucky Montana for his service after he resigned as a member of Parliament (MP).

At this stage, it is still unclear why Montana has quit the National Assembly, after more than a year since he was sworn in.

The resignation comes as the former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) boss faces a sequestration challenge from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) over his R55 million tax debt.

Following his controversial exit from PRASA, Montana disappeared from public life.

He re-appeared in August 2024 when he was sworn in as an MP for the MK Party.

The move was largely seen as a reward from the MK Party leader and the former State president, Jacob Zuma.

Montana was implicated in the Zondo Commission into State capture; however, no criminal charges have been laid against him yet.

Instead, he’s been involved in a bitter public dispute with SARS, which has resulted in the institution taking the extraordinary step of publicly disclosing his tax affairs after he accused it of fraud and political bias against him.

Despite his resignation from Parliament, Montana remains an MK Party member.
