Following leaks from party headquarters last week, the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party has now confirmed that former President Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Brumelda, will be sworn in as a parliamentarian on Wednesday.

She will be joined by former Deputy Police Minister Bongani Mkhongi, who last week told EWN that he was unaware of the deployment.

Brumelda Zuma and Mkhongi are among four new Members of Parliament (MPs) who will take up seats in the benches of the official opposition. These appointments fill vacancies arising from two high-profile resignations.

High-Profile Exits Create Vacancies
Ten days ago, the MK Party announced the resignation of leader Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile, following accusations that she had been involved in deceitfully luring South African men to Russia to fight in its war against Ukraine.

A few days later, former PRASA boss, Lucky Montana, announced he too was quitting his short political career.

Montana had recently courted controversy with the tax authority and was facing sequestration over millions of rand n unpaid taxes.

With the two Zuma daughters trading places, the party says Brumelda Zuma brings with her experience in public administration.

New Faces in the National Assembly
Another newcomer to Parliament is Makhosazana Radebe, who has a history in local government as a former municipal councillor in the Lekwa Municipality. Former MK military veteran, Pumlane Kubukeli, completes the new cohort of four.

The party’s parliamentary whip, Colleen Makhubele, says the new MPs will bring a wealth of experience and dedication to the party and the National Assembly.

“Their contributions will strengthen our efforts to serve the people of South Africa and uphold the values of democracy, equality and justice,” she said in a statement today.
