With many people stepping away from their usual fitness routines over the festive season, strength and conditioning coach Kaylyn Elliott says staying active does not require long or intense workouts.
"You've got to enjoy what you're doing at the end of the day because it's not meant to be a chore."
She recommends just 15 to 30 minutes of daily movement to help people maintain fitness while on holiday, even when access to gyms or equipment is limited.
Elliot suggests short, efficient sessions built around compound movements such as squats, push-ups, burpees and kettlebell swings, which work multiple muscle groups at once.
For those who prefer cardio, brisk walks, short runs or time-based challenges can be effective, especially when done first thing in the morning to avoid disrupting holiday plans.
She also encourages people to make exercise social and enjoyable by involving friends or family.
"You can incorporate your friends and family to join you. It makes the experience a little bit more fun."
Turning workouts into light-hearted challenges, Elliott adds, helps remove the sense of obligation and keeps people motivated during a season often dominated by travel, food and social commitments.
