The National Consumer Commission has recalled a batch of NAN baby formula.

The announcement was made on Wednesday after a potential toxin was identified in the Nan Special Pro HA 800g batch.

The formula is used for the dietary management of infants at risk of developing a cow’s milk protein allergy.

The affected product is NAN Special Pro HA 800g, with batch number 51660742F3.

The product was manufactured in June last year and distributed across South Africa, Eswatini and Namibia.

The National Consumer Commission said a potential toxin, known as cereulide, was identified in the batch, posing a food safety concern.

Consumers in possession of the affected NAN Special Pro HA 800g infant formula are urged to return the product to the point of purchase for a full refund.

The commission said it would continue to monitor the matter and engage with the supplier to ensure ongoing compliance with food safety requirements.
