With hot temperatures and high wind speeds increasing fire hazards, emergency services have remained on high alert, particularly around the Uilendskraalmond, Groenewyde, and Panorama areas between Pearly Beach and Stanford.

Firelines remain active close to homes and tourist facilities.

Overstrand Municipality Fire Chief Lester Smith said that multiple agencies have been deployed to prevent flames from threatening nearby structures.

"At this stage Overstrand Municipality, City of Cape Town, landowners are currently working on that line because there is a potential that there can be a flare-up and there is structures, there is a resort in that area that can be under threat.”

Not long after that warning, flames flared up in the same area, with firefighters and landowners springing into action to contain the fire and protect nearby properties.

Fire crews say conditions remain challenging as strong winds and dry vegetation continue to fuel flare-ups across the area.
