Western Cape Premier Alan Winde is expected to give an update on the ongoing Knysna water crisis and the recent devastating wildfires in the Cape Winelands and Overberg districts on Thursday.

The premier is also expected to outline the province’s response to the recent wildfires that have caused widespread damage in the Cape Winelands and Overberg districts.

Winde met with his provincial cabinet on Wednesday to assess both crises and decide whether to declare Knysna a disaster area.

Premier Alan Winde is expected to provide an update on the water situation in the Southern Cape, where communities continue to face water supply challenges, particularly in and around Knysna.

Winde and Local Government MEC Anton Bredell will also focus on ongoing firefighting efforts across affected areas.

The briefing is expected to shed light on relief measures, coordination between different spheres of government, and plans to support impacted communities.

His address comes amid growing concern over climate-related disasters affecting parts of the Western Cape.
