The alleged mastermind behind last year's deadly Wynberg court shooting has told the court she is not receiving medical treatment while in custody.


Shireen Matthews is one of five accused in the fatal courthouse attack in April last year. She appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday alongside her co-accused Abubaker Adams, Bian Booysen, Wanay Farao, and Vuyisani Zengethwa.

Her lawyer told the court that she was diagnosed with a tumour before her arrest in April last year, but he claims that Matthews has since been denied medical care at the Pollsmoor Prison hospital.

The magistrate said the issue falls outside the court's direct authority. However, she confirmed that she will write to prison officials, requesting that Matthews' medical condition be investigated.
