It's emerged that before his death by suicide, former police reservist Wiandre Pretorius was seen in a heated argument with a woman believed to be his fiancée.

Pretorius died on Saturday after allegedly shooting himself at a petrol station in Brakpan, days after he survived an alleged hit in Boksburg.

He had been the first person of interest questioned by police following the murder of Marius van der Merwe, a key witness at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Van der Merwe had implicated Pretorius in the torture and killing of Emmanuel Mbense on the East Rand in 2022.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the argument.
