Footage captured by a Cape Town resident of pavement driving in peak traffic is going viral.

Shared by local platform WAAR Brandit INNI KAAP, the clip shows cars, trucks and taxis driving on the pavement on Delft Main Road, against the direction of traffic.

Pedestrians have to walk on the edges of the pavement to walk safely.

WAAR Brandit INNI KAAP credits Llewellyn Esau as the original poster of the footage.

People commenting on the post say this behaviour is common also on other main thoroughfares.

"Our lives are at risk here every morning when we take a morning jog Symphony way", writes one.

"This is what they do everyday morning even on N1 or N2", says another.

In an update on road traffic infringements by minibus taxis, JP Smith, Cape Town MayCo member for Safety and Security, said 2,700 taxis were impounded between October and December 2025.

He announced an impending traffic by-law amendment that will help the City to impound ANY vehicle where a driver is seen to be endangering other road users.
