Two police officers accused of extorting money from illegal shebeen operators are set to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court in Kwazulu-Natal on Monday
The sergeants, based at the Inanda Police Station and Ntuzuma Magistrates Court, are accused of demanding payments in exchange for not making arrests.
Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said that the pair was initially caught by community members in January.
'When the community arrived at Inanda Police Station, they were perplexed to find out that the two police officers were not brought at the station, and that nobody at the community service centre had any knowledge about the alleged extortion and the apprehension of police officers."
