North West businessman Brown Mogotsi was questioned on Tuesday on whether he was a legitimate South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence asset.

Mogotsi was responding to questions before Parliament’s ad hoc committee on police corruption regarding submissions from senior police who dispute his intelligence credentials.

He said he was an asset but was registered and later deregistered on the Crime Intelligence system.

Mogotsi said the claims were a fabrication and part of a plan to discredit him.

During the proceedings, Mogotsi asked: “How does Lt General Dumisani Khumalo come in? I’m saying that because he’s the divisional head of Crime Intelligence. It’s amazing. Even one of the journalists asked me how come a lieutenant general and a divisional commissioner does not know you where as you claim to be whatever? I’m saying he had to deal with Major General Lushaba to ensure that they discredit me to say they don’t even know about me. That’s where the fabrication comes from.”
