Ntuli says KZN economy showing signs of recovery under GPU

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli says the province's economy has seen some growth under the current coalition administration. 

Ntuli was delivering his State of the Province Address (SOPA) at the provincial legislature in Pietermaritzburg, sitting at the Woodburn Rugby Stadium on Friday.

The KZN economy took a knock after the July 2021 unrest, which saw damage amounting to over a billion rand.  

Ntuli told residents the multi-party administration is yielding good results.  

"The economy of KwaZulu-Natal under the government of provincial unity is showing signs of steady recovery in 2025. Our provincial economy grew by 1.8 percent, a moderate but encouraging improvement from the subdued growth rates that characterise the post-COVID-19 period."

Meanwhile, the province continues to battle with crime.

Ntuli admitted that crime remains a concern, but said police response in dealing with crime has been notable.  

“Crime is decreasing in the province, though it is still high. The recent revelations that crime has decreased by 13% in KwaZulu-Natal is a testimony to the good leadership provided by the provincial commissioner, Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhanazi.”
 
The premier has called on residents to also rally behind calls to end crime.
