The case against six family members accused of killing nine people for insurance payouts has now been transferred to the Polokwane High Court.

Masephe Shokane, William Shokane, Mmakoena Kutumela, Masepe Damaris Selepe, Masepe Damaris Selepe, Mojeri Mataba and Martha Ruiters appeared briefly in the Polokwane Magistrate’s court on Wednesday.

They face a string of charges, including nine counts of murder, fraud, money laundering and receiving the proceeds of unlawful activities.

Police allege that between 2013 and 2024, the group fraudulently took out multiple life and funeral policies on several victims, with the total value estimated at around R10 million.

Limpopo NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi said the accused face a total of 47 counts.

“They are facing 47 counts, including murder, money laundering, fraud and receiving proceeds of unlawful activities. The matter has been postponed to 25 March 2026.”
