Organised crime officer at Gauteng SAPS, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, once again faced a grilling at the Madlanga Commission for sharing confidential police information with civilians, this time, with an unnamed taxi boss.

WhatsApp chats before the commission show Nkosi frequently shared information with a man he referred to only as ‘Mampane taxi man.’

Nkosi says he doesn’t know Mampane’s name but describes him as a taxi owner who was close to the late taxi boss, Jon ‘Mswazi’ Mswabi.

Nkosi regularly shared police reports with Mampane, including insider details about the corruption investigation into the head of crime intelligence, Dumisani Khumalo.

"I don’t want to defend something that is undefendable, but by the time this thing was sent to Mr Mampane, it was already in public, but I understand, I take it, it was wrong.”

Evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson pressed Nkosi on why he shared a lot of information with Mampane relating to the head of crime intelligence.

“I don’t think Mr Mampane had any bad intentions or he know mr khumalo that he would wish something bad would happen to him. I was only circulating this on the basis that people in his industry are interested in police things.”
