Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA) says the murder of a lawyer in Johannesburg earlier this week is an attack on the rule of law.
Chinette Gallichan was gunned down outside the CCMA offices on Monday morning.
According to reports, she was a legal practitioner attached to Sibanye-Stillwater’s legal team
It's understood she was working on a labour dispute on behalf of the company at the time of her death.
BACSA said Chinette Gallichan’s murder is deeply concerning.
It said it’s clear the attack was not a coincidence but part of an organised criminal plot.
BACSA CEO Anton du Plessis said it’s clear the attack is meant to put pressure on the criminal justice and legal system.
"Incidents like the killing of a lawyer in Johannesburg this week highlighted the pressures on our justice system. South Africa has the capability to respond. The priority now is ensuring alignment, protecting those at risk and delivering consistent consequences."
He adds that greater measures need to be taken to protect the country’s legal system.
