A meeting between City of Tshwane officials and Hammanskraal residents intended to address persistent water issues descended into chaos after the community demanded the presence of the Mayor.
Community leader Katlego Mthombeni stated that scores of frustrated residents gathered at a local hall on Monday afternoon.
While the community expected to be addressed by Mayor Nasiphi Moya, she did not arrive.
Anger continues to mount in Hammanskraal over ongoing water shortages and poor water quality, issues that remain unresolved despite repeated government promises to fix the crisis.
The situation reached a breaking point when residents refused to be addressed by the MMC for Utilities, Frans Boshielo.
The crowd insisted that only the mayor herself should speak to them regarding the service delivery failures.
The collapse of the meeting further underscores the scale and urgency of the water crisis in Hammanskraal.
For residents, the mayor’s absence was seen as a lack of accountability for a community that has spent years waiting for clean, reliable water.
