MasterChef South Africa said goodbye to its youngest contestant, 23-year-old Mahlatse Mongatane, following an emotional elimination on Sunday.

Despite showing promise throughout the competition, including winning R50,000 in a previous challenge, the rice challenge proved to be more difficult than anticipated for the passionate baker and hospitality student from Limpopo.

Speaking to 702’s Bongani Bingwa, Mongatane said that although his exit from the competition was a tough moment, his spirit and passion for cooking remain unbroken.

His MasterChef journey was marked by his creativity, skill, and infectious enthusiasm, winning over hearts with each dish he plated.

“The toughest moment for me was this past Sunday… Can you please tell them to get rid of the clock?”

Reflecting on his earlier success, winning the chocolate challenge, he added: “It was so easy for me to win the chocolate challenge because I am a baker. I started baking at the age of 12.”

He encouraged aspiring chefs to take the leap and enter the next season of MasterChef South Africa.

“If you know that you can cook, and if you have what it takes, please go to MasterChef. Honestly, the experience is amazing,” he said.
