A 41-year-old man accused of impersonating a State Security Agency (SSA) official is due to appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The Hawks arrested the suspect last week after intelligence about his activities at an upmarket estate in Pretoria.

He allegedly posed as an SSA operative and unlawfully exercised authority.

The man was allegedly caught in the act, impersonating an SSA member.

The Hawks said preliminary investigations indicate he may have used the false identity to extort money from businesses in and around Pretoria.

Police executed a search-and-seizure operation last Wednesday after obtaining a warrant.

The suspect was found in possession of firearms and two appointment cards believed to be linked to the SSA.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
