The Emmy Award-winning children’s television series Bluey is making its way to South Africa in a delightful new format – a live theatrical puppet production titled Bluey’s Big Play For Real Life.
The show will run at the Artscape Opera House from 26 June to 6 July 2025.
Beloved by toddlers around the world, Bluey centres on a lively 7-year-old Blue Heeler pup and her equally charming family.
While the vibrant animation and playful antics captivate young audiences, parents have also grown to love the series for its clever storytelling and poignant life lessons. Though written for kids, the show often includes subtle, humorous nods to adult viewers, making it a cross-generational hit.
With rehearsals already underway, the production is being brought to life by director Jacob Williams, one of Australia’s leading puppeteers and puppetry directors, who promises a magical experience for fans of all ages.
Rehearsals are currently underway, and Williams explains what audiences can expect.
"It's been a thrill of a lifetime to tour the world to see how relatable the show is to people in Singapore, America, UAE, UK, and now, wonderfully, here in South Africa."
- Jacob Williams
"The real gift is that we bring the 2D world of Bluey into a 3D world on stage... It's like seeing your idol live on stage."
- Jacob Williams
