The joint operational committee managing Knysna's water supply challenges on Tuesday said that ongoing water leaks and pipe bursts were its top priority.
It said that while infrastructure improvements were contributing to improved system performance, leaks continued to put pressure on the system.
To address this, the committee is hiring more technical staff to improve its response time and strengthen maintenance plans.
The Western Cape's Local Government Department head, Graham Paulse, said the committee would continue to meet weekly to monitor the situation.
“Additional capacity is being brought on board to improve response times and reduce water losses,” he said.
Paulse also called on members of the public to do their part to convserve water.
“Residents, businesses and visitors are urged to use water sparingly, comply with water restrictions, report leaks immediately and report any vandalism to water and sanitation infrastructure,” he added.
