City of Ekurhuleni probing cause of fire that gutted Palm Ridge substation

JOHANNESBURG - The City of Ekurhuleni is investigating the cause of a fire that gutted a substation in Palm Ridge.

Residents in the area have been left in complete darkness following the incident.

The city’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services said a control room went up in flames on Thursday.

The metro said it is still unclear when power will be restored.

"Intense damage was experienced inside the ripple control room housing the electrical breakers. The actual cause of the fire is undetermined and is still under investigation by fire safety officers together with the City of Ekurhuleni electrical engineers,” said Ekurhuleni emergency spokesperson William Tladi.
