EC transport dept appeals to motorists to remain vigilant amid bad weather

Parts of the Eastern Cape were hit by snow in the past 24 hours.

EASTERN CAPE - The Eastern Cape Department of Transport is appealing to motorists to remain vigilant on the roads.
 
Parts of the promise were hit by snow in the past 24 hours.
 
Many of its roads have since been reopened, including the Penhoek Pass, N2 Highway towards Gqeberha, and Mountain Shadow between Barkly East and Elliot.

However, the department says the R58 from Ngcobo towards Barkly East remains a concerned.
 
Department spokesperson Makhaya Komisa says the road surface is still slippery. 

"Provincial traffic officers are hard at work ensuring the safety of motorists at the Penhoek Pass and R58 road in Lady Grey. Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has urged motorists to drive with caution and obey the rules of the road," said Komisa.
