JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Joburg believes there's a possibility that the African Nationcal Congress (ANC) knew about the fraud allegations against former mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda.
Gwamanda's fraud allegations first surfaced in May last year, shortly after the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported his election as mayor.
He was arrested on Friday, after allegedly defrauding Soweto residents through a bogus funeral insurance company in 2012.
DA caucus leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, has slammed the ANC for deploying Gwamanda to government without vetting him.
"They've given him power knowing the serious allegations hanging over his head. So it's a serious indictment on the current coalition. They are not taking the residents seriously and we are not surprised there is no service delivery happening."
