Liquideep reunites after 11 years: ‘It just feels like it’s time'

947’s Drive with Thando speaks with Jonathan 'Ziyon' Hamilton and Thabo 'Ryzor' Shokgoloof of Liquideep.

After 11 years, Liquideep has reunited and has got the country jamming along again. 

The pair took a break from music in 2014 after releasing several head-bopping hits that shaped a generation of South African music.

While the break was much needed, a reunion was always on the cards, says Ziyon. 

“We have been talking about this maybe three to four years now. It just feels like it’s time. We feel like we are ready to just come back and have fun and that’s really what it's about for us right now.”

“We have enjoyed the music [industry], the quality, where it is now, it is so enjoyable… we are blessed to be in South Africa… our music and our sound is appreciated at many levels.”

Despite being away from the mic and the spotlight, the pair have remained close friends over these 11 years. 

“What people don’t realise is that this is my brother, even though we needed to take our break doesn’t mean that we took a break. We just understood that there is a timing for everything.”

But the most important question on everyone’s mind: is there new music on the way?

In due time, says Ziyon.

“Let’s get used to the stage, let’s get back to reconnecting with the crowd but we will definitely get to that point [of an album]… But we will give them what they want.”
