CAPE TOWN - Deputy President Paul Mashatile says the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party can amend the constitution to land expropriation without compensation if they can get the numbers.
Mashatile was responding to questions in the National Assembly on Thursday where parties questioned the government's land reform achievements.
But Mashatile said there's still time to amend the constitution even though legislation could not be adopted in the sixth administration.
"Parliament is at liberty to bring back a motion to try and change the constitution if you can get the two-thirds majority that we couldn't get before," said Mashatile.
Mashatile said a new expropriation bill is about to be signed and will cover some of the issues raised.
"We had an old expropriation act and we needed a new one that will in a way take into account some of the things we could not achieve by amending the constitution," he said.
