No boozing on the beach – CT authorities reiterate call for alcohol-free shores

CAPE TOWN - While drinking on the beach is illegal in Cape Town, beachgoers are finding ways to bypass the law, with increased numbers of confiscated alcohol bottles across the city.

In the first 18 days of December, the city recorded over 1,500 bottles snuck in illegally at beaches between Muizenberg and Sea Point.

However, the city’s Safety and Security Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Mzwakhe Nqavashe, said the figure had since increased to more than 2,600 bottles.

“Our message is very strong: stop bringing alcohol to our beaches. Those that are of drinking age should drink at home in a relaxed environment. Do not bring these items to our beaches,” said Nqavashe.
