The Virgin Active Ride Joburg has been rescheduled to an earlier date on account of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
Originally slated for 16 November, the highly anticipated timed cycle race will now take place on 26 October.
It will still feature 97km of fully closed roads, premium water points and medical support.
Rider safety remains the top priority, says Race Director Fritz Pienaar.
“With world leaders and international delegations descending on the City in mid-November, road closures and high-level security protocols around Nasrec would have made it challenging to deliver the Ride Joburg experience our cyclists deserve.”
In an effort to broaden its accessibility, Ride Joburg has also introduced a Free Ride initiative.
It is a chance for financially disadvantaged South Africans to get in on the action.
Applications for the initiative are available on the Ride Joburg website until 31 July 2025.
